Randy Wooden
Vice Chair
Randy Wooden is recognized for his expertise as a go-to resource for job seekers in the Triad. As the Professional Center Director at Goodwill Industries of Northwest NC, Randy manages and is the public face and voice of the first Goodwill professional center in the nation. He has regularly written for the Winston-Salem Journal, has spoken on both national and local radio and television, YouTube, hosts group events for professionals in career transition, and actively seeks business relationships to further networking and referral opportunities.
Randy, a graduate of Marietta College in Ohio, holds a BA in Management and Advertising. He has been in the Winston-Salem area since 2000. In 2002 he started his own company, Wooden Group, Inc, a private outplacement firm and, in 2007, formed a non-profit to share his marketing and networking expertise with students and civic organizations.
Randy’s “why” and passion for helping and encouraging others dates to a questioning point in his career in the mid 2000’s as he debated whether to continue his course or seek a different career. He prayed for guidance, hoping for a sign of reassurance. Within a day it came in the form of a distraught, disheveled woman with no ability to pay for services. She thanked him for being the only person willing to help and followed up with a hand-written letter of appreciation and a cashier’s check for $5. She said she could never repay him, but that that was all the money she had. His encounter reminded him of Matthew 25:40, and Randy wondered whether Christ had manifested Himself as perhaps a confirming sign he was where he needed to be.
Randy holds a Global Career Development Facilitator Certification and is a Board Member of the Winston-Salem Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management as well as a member of its national organization. He is a Councilman with the Village of Clemmons and serves on additional Boards and Committees.
Pivot Ministry has already benefited from Randy’s expertise. Executive Director Carol Polk has referred people to Goodwill’s Professional Center for years for help in resume writing and job search. On Pivot’s Board of Directors, Randy will serve on the Human Resources Committee and the Search Committee for the new Executive Director. We know that his marketing knowledge and willingness to share career advice will be invaluable to the Pivot class participants and the Board of Directors.
